For legal services such as incorporating, contract drafting, wills, copyright, trademark, or domestic matters we will enter a contract for services which typically includes a retainer as a portion of the total estimated costs of the work. If paying the retainer or fees with BTC we will provide the appropriate Bitcoin address from our Bitcoin wallet to yours. The services will be priced in dollars so a BTC transaction is valued at the CoinBase (or a mutually agreed alternative) exchange at the time of the peer-2-peer (P2P) transaction.
If you want all or a portion of any settlement payouts in BTC we can explore that transaction as well but Mr. Rosskopf will discuss with you personally the risks involved and expect you to be familiar with BTC transfers and the exchange volatility before settling in BTC.
A Bitcoin transaction is not reversible and both sides of the transaction are taking a risk that the value of the BTC will fluctuate after the transaction. The seller receiving Bitcoin benefits if the price of BTC goes up. If the exchange rate of BTC declines after the transaction the benefit is to the buyer. Agreeing to transact any business in BTC at this point carries risks of exchange volatility thus, we encourage you to use a wallet or service that convert's your BTC to dollars rapidly to avoid large price fluctuations.
In the unusual event a refund is do to a client, we will happily refund in dollars or BTC at the BTC exchange rate at the time of the refund transaction. For example: You may pay our office .005 BTC for services valued at $450 (assuming a BTC exchange rate of $9000 per BTC). Three days later, let's say you decided not to have your Will drafted just yet, you request a full refund. Well, in that three days the exchange rate of a BTC has risen to $10000. You may request a refund in dollars which would be the original $450 fee paid. Or you may request your refund in BTC in which case we would refund .045 BTC (assuming a $10,000 exchange rate at time of refund transaction). Here is the math: $450 / $10000 per BTC = .045 BTC. The key for both sides of the transaction to avoid the dangers of price fluctuation is to rapidly convert BTC to dollars. For the sake of simplicity this example eliminates micro transaction fees charged in the transfer of BTC and other costs possibly incurred by the firm and/or client.
